Learning the business the hard way
It started with a microphone. Philadelphia — Albert was rapping, pressing his own records and running his first label before he was old enough to know what a mechanical royalty was.
The realisation came fast: the stage wasn't his strong suit, the business was. So he stepped behind it, wearing every hat in the chain — small-time manager, then label owner, then booking agent, then distributor. All of it learned from the inside, in a city that has never handed anybody anything.
His first paycheque was cutting grass with his father. His mother taught him to save and his father taught him to invest; he has never lost the arithmetic of either.
